Whatever your goal, to maintain wellness or to find relief from a particular condition, we hope your experience with our work at 1st Step Chiropractic is pleasant. This work includes upper cervical care with the NUCCA procedure and lessons in the F.M. Alexander Technque.

Not everyone will be a candidate for either type of work all the time. But at some point in a person's life, it will be appropriate to receive help in one or both areas. We want to discover with you when that time is appropriate.

This page will help you understand what you can expect during your initial visit.

First step is call Dr. Schalow to schedule an initial consultation.
Plan on about one hour for this. We value listening and understanding your story.

If Dr. Schalow thinks you may be a candidate for lessons in the F.M.  Alexander Technique, we will perform a thorough examination that involves chiropractic, medical orthopedic and neurologic tests. The goal here is not only to see what is going on with the joints, the nerves and the muscles, but also to establish whether there is a structural problem requiring specialized chiropractic care, or a customary muscle tension problem (habit) requiring Alexander lessons.

If you are a candidate for only lessons in the Alexander Technique, we will do a short (15 minute) test lesson to establish whether or not our teaching style is compatible with your learning style.

On the other hand, if you have structural problems and are a candidate for upper cervical care, and only if you decide to undergo care, we take precise, very low dose radiographs to determine how to bring balance back to your spine and proper muscle tone in your body.

After a detailed analysis of the films, you will return at your next visit for a report of findings and your first adjustment. Immediately after the first adjustment, most if not all of the abnormal muscle spasms will be gone and the newly-balanced body will begin its healing sequence.

Post adjustment radiographs are taken only after the first adjustment. At that point, Dr. Schalow will give his recommendations for a treatment plan that is tailored to your condition.

We are happy to work out a payment plan for you that allows you to get the care you need and pay for it at a rate that you can afford.
